History detectives
Ever wondered what things were like in the past? Like school for instance. What was it like? Was it different from today?
Students from Rye Primary School, Mornington Primary School and Hastings Primary School decided to find out with the guidance of oral historians Way Back When.
Former students were invited back to their old classrooms to share memories of their time at school. The young interviewers were very curious to find out how different school was some 60 years ago. Like every good history detective does, they spent some time thinking about and writing out questions before the interview.
This is the first ever oral history film undertaken with schools, Mornington Peninsula Shire and community history groups as a way of preserving and broadcasting our local history and personal stories. MPS provided funding for the project through Priority Projects. The project engendered interest and respect for past traditions and the elders in our community and was developed in partnership with Dromana & District Historical Society, Rye Historical Society, Mornington & District Historical Society and Hasting Western-Port Historical Society.
