Somerville is buzzing with creativity thanks to the opening of its newest Community Art Space in the breezeway of Somerville Central Shopping Centre.

Adding to the thriving art hubs at Mornington Library and Yawa Aquatic Centre, this fresh spot is all about celebrating local talent and bringing a splash of colour to the community.

The first exhibition featured a stunning showcase by local emerging art students, including follow-up pieces from those who participated in the New Wave 24 exhibition at the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery earlier this year.

From bold statements to thought-provoking creations, the artwork told a story of young artists finding their voice and sharing it with the world.

This new space isn’t just about art on walls, it’s about connection, creativity, and giving the next generation of artists a platform to shine.

Whether you’re grabbing a coffee or doing your shopping, take a moment to check it out. You might just discover your new favourite artist!

Right now, the space is home to a breathtaking exhibition by local photographer Glenn Walker. Glenn’s fine art photography captures the rugged coastlines and serene seascapes of the Mornington Peninsula through techniques like intentional camera movement and long exposures. His handcrafted timber frames, made from reclaimed Australian hardwoods, add an eco-conscious and personal touch to his work.

Glenn’s exhibition is only here until Monday 20 January, so don’t miss the chance to experience his stunning work this weekend.

Art’s alive and well in Somerville, and this is just the beginning.
