Help us save lives: share your ideas to make visiting our waters safer

Published on 09 December 2025

Foreshore and beach

We’re asking locals and regular visitors to share their insights on what would make visiting our beaches, inlets and waterways safer.

Our draft Local Water Safety Plan is being developed together with Belgravia Leisure, Parks Victoria, Victoria Police, Ambulance Victoria, SES, CFA, local surf lifesaving clubs – but the missing piece is you.

Your local knowledge will help us focus our efforts and resources where they'll make the biggest difference.

Whether it's a dodgy spot you avoid with the kids, a beach where visitors don't understand the conditions, or an idea you've had for years about better signage or equipment – we want to hear it.

Over the past decade, 24 people have fatally drowned in our region, with 81 per cent of incidents occurring in coastal areas and nearly half happening during summer. But every drowning is preventable, and your local knowledge is crucial to getting prevention right.
