From June 21 to 23, the community came together for a great cause at the Mayoral Charity Event. Over 70 volunteers joined Mayor Councillor Simon Brooks to support Fusion Mornington Peninsula, which is dedicated to helping young people experiencing homelessness.

The volunteers refreshed the old army barracks in Mount Martha, where Fusion is located, by tackling various indoor and outdoor tasks. They removed an old playground and BBQ, installed bedroom heaters, and built six large planter boxes for vegetables. Around 1,000 plants from The Briars were added, five truckloads of mulch spread, and garden beds weeded and mulched. Indoors, volunteers painted and freshened up bedrooms for the next intake of young people.

To finish the remaining tasks, the Mayor and Shire staff will install new gates, a fire hydrant, and a hose cover in the coming weeks. These improvements will enhance living conditions for the young families supported by Fusion, which provides on-site beds and 24/7 care in a safe, therapeutic environment.

The event also saw generous financial support, raising $11,000 from contributors like Smart Business Solutions. Many local businesses donated materials, including crushed rock from Hillview Quarries, funds for materials from Bowens Hastings, an electric BBQ and cabinet from DA Christies, paint from Inspirations Paint Dromana, a skip from Vins Bins, mulch from Ventia, and plants from The Briars.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who donated funds, materials, or services to support this effort. Your contributions are instrumental in ensuring Fusion Mornington Peninsula can continue providing essential services and accommodation.
