Capel Sound: Broadway Road and Drainage Upgrade

Ongoing concerns have been raised about drainage, the condition of the road as well as the continued increase of usage of Broadway as an alternative to Point Nepean Road. The Shire has investigated these concerns and considered these factors. As a result, Broadway, between Truemans Road and Elizabeth Avenue has been identified as a high priority site for upgrade under the Roads to Recovery Program.

Due to budget constraints, the project was divided into two stages, Stage 1 was successfully completed in November 2024.

Stage 1 works included:

Rehabilitation and upgrade of the existing roadway, and construction of kerb and channel.
Installation of appropriate drainage to address existing drainage issues.
Upgrade of bus stop facilities including indented bus pull over areas and formalised waiting areas.
Construction of a footpath along Broadway to connect into existing footpaths on Truemans Road and Elizabeth Avenue.
A pedestrian refuge crossing immediately east of Eliza Street.
Implementation of traffic calming along the length of Broadway to replace existing speed humps.

After receiving additional funding from Roads to Recovery which supports the construction and maintenance of the nation’s local road infrastructure assets, the Shire is progressing Stage 2 works which include construction of a roundabout at Broadway and Truemans Road intersection.

Proposed Stage 2 works include:
