Your dogs, your say: help shape the future of Grant Road Dog Park
Published on 29 September 2025
Somerville’s Grant Road Dog Park is a much-loved spot for dogs and their owners, and we’re exploring ways to make it even better.
A local community group has applied for funding to upgrade the park by adding internal fences and gates, creating separate off-leash areas so everyone – big dogs, small dogs and their humans – can enjoy the space safely.
We’ve come up with three possible upgrade options and your feedback will help us decide which one works best for the community.
Take a look at the maps online, think about what would suit your furry friends and share your thoughts in our survey.
Community consultation is currently open and closes 27 October 2025.

Next steps
Once the consultation closes, we’ll review all the feedback and share the community’s preferred option by November 2025. The project will then move into the grants assessment process, where funding decisions will be made.
Quotes attributable to Mayor Councillor Anthony Marsh:
“This project is a great example of community-driven improvement. By creating dedicated areas for different dogs, we’re making sure the park remains a welcoming and safe place for everyone. I encourage users and local residents to take part in the consultation and share what matters most to them and their dogs.”
Quotes attributable to Beek Beek Ward Councillor Kate Roper:
“These proposed upgrades will make the park safer and more inclusive for all dog owners. I encourage everyone to have their say and help us choose the best option for Somerville.”
