Have Your Say: Join the Journey to connect our Peninsula Trails
Published on 11 December 2024
The Shire is calling on our community to help bring an iconic vision to life! The Peninsula Trails project aims to create a world-class, 170 km network of walking and cycling trails that will connect our townships, parks, and coastal areas like never before. With 11 key sections still to be developed, this is your chance to influence the final design of the trails.
Building on over 100 km of existing trails, the Peninsula Trails project aims to create a fully connected network that enhances accessibility, promotes health and well-being, and boosts tourism.
As part of the consultation process, we’re seeking your feedback on the Peninsula Trails Draft Masterplan, which outlines the preferred route options for these critical missing sections. Your insights will help refine the Masterplan to ensure it meets community needs, supports local tourism, and protects the Peninsula’s unique landscapes.
The route options were determined using a clear evaluation framework that assessed against key trail objectives. Input from experts, stakeholders, and the community helped shape this process, with the highest-scoring routes included in the Draft Masterplan.
Why Your Voice Matters
The Peninsula Trails project has the potential to:
- Improve health and well-being by providing accessible, safe outdoor spaces for recreation.
Strengthen local economies by attracting more visitors year-round.
- Enhance connectivity between towns, reducing car dependency and fostering sustainable transport.
- Celebrate the Peninsula’s natural and cultural heritage through eco-tourism and guided trail experiences.
