Somerville: Local Area Traffic Management - Black Spot Project
- Project typeRoads, Streetscapes and Footpaths
- Project value$1,220,000
The Somerville Local Area Traffic Management project aims to improve safety and reduce the potential for crash occurrence on the local road network through a combination of traffic calming treatments and a proposed 40 km/h Area speed limit.
Somerville has several road safety risk factors such as wide roads which can encourage higher vehicle speeds and shopping, community, and sports facilities which contribute to additional vehicle movements.
The scope of works includes a series of raised safety platforms, speed limit reduction, line marking and signage. The Shire’s Traffic Team has completed community consultation for the proposed scope of works.
Detailed design was completed in early 2025, with a contractor being engaged for the works. Construction commenced in late June, with the works anticipated to be completed by end of the year.
