About Meals on Wheels
Meals on Wheels is at the heart of many communities. The Mornington Peninsula Shire's Meals on Wheels program provides 1,600 delivered meals per week for over 470 people, and 83,000 meals per year.
The first Meals on Wheels was delivered more than 70 years ago and has since become more than 'just a meal'. Meals on Wheels has been operating on the Mornington Peninsula, for over 50 years. To find out more the Shire's Meals on Wheels service.
How does Meals on Wheels help the community?
Good nutrition is a key part to maintaining health and wellbeing. Meals on Wheels ensures that older residents receive nutritious meals delivered every weekday morning by dedicated volunteers. This service supports physical health but also helps reduce social isolation among many members of our community.
Our volunteers play an essential role in strengthening community connections. Each delivery is more than a meal—it is an opportunity to provide social interaction and support.
Why should you volunteer for the Shire’s Meals on Wheels service?
Volunteers ensure that the community’s most vulnerable residents receive nutritious food and remain connected to those around them.
Through meaningful interactions, volunteers often form lifelong friendships with clients and fellow volunteers. Studies have shown that those who volunteer live longer, happier, and more productive lives. Volunteering for the Shire's Meals on Wheels service is a rewarding experience.
How to volunteer for the Shire’s Meals on Wheels service?
You need to have a reliable and insured vehicle, and complete mandatory Shire checks including a Police Check and a Working with Children Check.
