Based on the movement that started in the Netherlands, The Southern Peninsula Repair Café and Mornington Repair Café hold monthly repair sessions where volunteer fixers show you how to fix your broken or torn things for a small donation. Donations are used to purchase tools and materials. They have fixed chainsaws, clocks and heaters, sharpened secateurs and raised hems.
Southern Peninsula Repair Café – hold monthly sessions on the third Sunday of the month from 11am to 2pm at the Rye Community House, 27 Nelson St, Rye.
Mornington Repair Café – hold monthly sessions on the third Sunday of each month from 1pm to 4pm at 91 Wilsons Rd, Mornington.
Repair Café Foundation
The Repair Café concept arose in the Netherlands in 2009 and was formulated by Martine Postma, at the time an Amsterdam-based journalist/publicist. In 2010, she started the Repair Café Foundation. This foundation provides support to local groups around the world wishing to start their own Repair Café. The foundation also supports the Southern Peninsula Repair Café and the Mornington Repair Café.
