Rates payment assistance

We recognise that some property owners may have difficulty paying rates and as a result have available the following measures of assistance.

Payment options

Council offers flexible payment options for your rates as listed below.

Payment plan

Payment plans can be scheduled on a weekly, fortnightly, or monthly basis. Payments will be calculated to pay your annual rates and charges over the financial year. Once the plan is established you will receive confirmation in writing.

Please be aware payments can be made using any method listed on your rates notice, except direct debit.

Direct Debit

Paying your rates by direct debit arrangement is a convenient and easy way for you to ensure that your rates are always paid on time.

You can elect to pay rates and charges by one of the following options using direct debit:

  • Four instalments – the four dates detailed on your annual rate notice.
  • Nine monthly payments commencing September to May on the 15th of the month, unless this date falls on a weekend or public holiday, in which case the direct debit will be the next business day.

Please be aware Council does not direct debit by credit card. Once you have established the direct debit arrangement for your rates, it will remain in place year after year until you advise the Shire to cease the arrangement.

To apply or if you need to update your bank account details, please click on this link to the Direct Debit page and online application.

Centrepay

Centrepay enables Centrelink customers to pay their rates and debtor accounts as a direct debit deduction from their fortnightly Centrelink payment.

Please call Revenue on 5950 1080 and we can send you a Centrepay form to complete and return to us.

Hardship

Council provides options for ratepayers who are in genuine financial hardship due to circumstances outside their control, to help manage the payment of rates:

  • A tailored payment plan that better suits your needs.
  • Short term or long-term deferral of rates.

All requests for rate relief must be made in writing and on the subscribed form, please apply below.

Deferment of rates may only be granted on an annual basis. Applicants requiring longer deferrals will be required to reapply each year. All requests for rate relief will be treated as confidential.

Please complete our online form by clicking on the below link or call our Revenue Team on 5950 1080 for a confidential discussion.
