Domestic wastewater disposal is one of the most important environmental issues currently facing the Mornington Peninsula.
Construction of a new sewer system that will service more than 16,000 properties in Portsea, Sorrento, Blairgowrie, Rye and St Andrews Beach was commenced by South East Water in November 2013.
To prevent contamination from septic tank systems, Mornington Peninsula Shire has a Domestic Wastewater Management Plan.
