Environmental Education Program
Our exciting new program is rolling out for 2021!
Our education program offers fantastic hands-on learning designed to engage students to learn more about the environment, sustainability, and climate change.
The lessons are targeted at specific learning levels from preschool right through to year 12 and VCAL.
All lessons can be delivered as excursions to the Eco Living Display Centre, incursions, online interactive workshops or webinars.
We can tailor a program specific to your timeframe, school and current area of inquiry.
- $5 per student, per lesson (excursions, incursions or online interactive workshops)
- $125 for webinars
- Each lesson goes for one hour
- Each lesson is linked directly to the Victorian Curriculum

The lessons (detailed below) provide a brief description of the various activities we can run within each of the 6 lessons offered. We have over 40 different activities spread over the six lessons.

Our waste lesson is offered in two parts.
The 9 R’s – Students learn about the different ways we can reduce waste, how we can take the next step as an individual and how closed-loop recycling is helping to reduce environmental impacts. Discover how to become a savvy shopper, solve solutions for common household items to divert them from landfill and learn why it’s important to reduce the amount of clothing we purchase through our sustainable fashion life cycle activity. Discover how amazing worms are and how they help us reduce our waste.
Plastic Oceans - Students learn what happens when we drop litter and how it harms our sea birds & animals by engaging in a series of hands-on activities such as the marine life emergency, decomposition & litter solutions.

Student’s learn how much drinkable water we have access to and how much water we use in our homes. Follow the scavenger hunt to discover how we can reduce water use and create and interact with a water catchment model to discover how they work and how they're affected by human activity. Identify different freshwater invertebrates, understand their adaptations and their place in the wetland food chain. Discover just how much water you really use per day through invisible water and the impact it has on Australia’s water supply. Complete a waterbody and/or water quality assessment, learn about how we can protect our water catchments.
Discover where energy comes from, how it is generated and will be generated in the future, how we use energy within our living environment and ways we can reduce our electricity use. Develop an understanding of how house design and human behaviours can help to reduce energy use, make us more comfortable and most importantly help our environment. Follow the clues to learn about energy saving initiatives and how to be an energy saver, not a waster! Develop an energy audit using common household appliances.
An interesting and hugely defining topic of our time. Students will be guided through a series of age specific activities designed to develop their awareness of the impact climate change is having on our environment, how it impacts us now and why we need to mitigate and instill change for the future. Students will develop understanding through a help save our planet scavenger hunt for younger year levels to learning about climate change mitigation and adaptation and completing an action plan tour designed for older year levels.
Ecosystems and Biodiversity
Students will explore common concepts of biodiversity, habitat and ecosystems, explore threats to biodiversity and how they can help improve it. Students will develop skills in classification, observation and analysis in a fun and interactive setting. Activities include a biodiversity/nature walk, habitat matching game, food chain activity, habitat and biodiversity assessments. These can be done with varying levels of complexity, depending on the local environment, time allowed and the age of the students. A habitat quality assessment allows students to audit the features of a particular area, relate them to biological diversity and investigate options to improve the habitat quality of an area. A biodiversity audit can include assessing minibeast diversity in leaf litter, tree canopy or in water, and invites students to explore the factors that affect biodiversity and how they can take simple actions to protect biodiversity.
Environmentally Sustainable Design
Identify and evaluate the impact that design, materials, systems and components have in sustainable house construction. Students work in groups to implement design ideas, processes and solutions to create their own sustainable house design. This creative and interactive lesson gives students the opportunity to think outside the box, develop a broad understanding of environmentally sustainable design, how human lifestyles impact the availability of natural resources, how individuals can move towards a more sustainable future and the many benefits of constructing a sustainable buildings.
