Rats and mice
Rodents such as rats and mice are a common problem. Typically they will not inhabit an area unless there is a food source available. Rodents can usually be found in instances of poorly maintained chicken pens, bird aviaries, compost piles, defective rubbish bins and fallen fruit.
Rodents are most likely to invade human habitation when surrounding paddocks or grasslands are harvested or when the natural seed food source runs out in Autumn. The colder months also drive them indoors for shelter and warmth.
Here are some tips on what to do in the instance of a rodent problem:
- If the rodent problem is on your own land, you can either treat the problem yourself, or engage the services of a professional pest control company
- If the rodent problem is on your neighbour's land, you can contact the Shire's Environment Protection Unit on: 5950 1050.
- If the rodent problem is on Council land, such as public reserves, please contact the Shire's Customer Service Team on: 1300 850 600.
