The Mornington Peninsula Shire Community Animal Shelter & Pound has been caring for cats, dogs and the occasional livestock for more than 30 years. The Shelter and Pound are open to the public by appointment 363 days per year. Anyone wanting to adopt a cat or dog from the Shelter is welcome to do so, pets available for adoption are listed on the Pet Rescue website.
The appointment system is in place to ensure that customers do not have to wait to be assisted and to practically manage the adoption process as the customer service area can only accommodate one appointment at a time
We place a high priority on the welfare of lost pets and work to re-home all unclaimed animals.
The Shire manages the Community Animal Shelter and the Animal Pound in accordance with the Code of Practice for the Management of Dogs and Cats in Shelters and Pounds and is recognised in the industry as maintaining the highest standards.
Mornington Peninsula Shire officially opened the new Community Animal Shelter and Pound on Watts Road, Mornington on Wednesday 23 August 2017.
The upgrade includes a new cattery which features 34 dedicated, individual cattery enclosures, including two independent quarantine rooms that are industry best practice.
The design and construction will ensure the Shire continues to meet its obligations under the Code of Practice for the Management of Dogs and Cats in Shelters and Pounds. It will further reduce the potential for diseases to spread and assist in the day to day management of the pets.
