Councillor Sarah Race was elected to the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council in 2020 and represents the Nepean Ward. Cr Race was elected as Deputy Mayor in 2020. She is the appointed representative on the Victorian Local Governance Association (VLGA), the Metropolitan Transport Forum and South East Council’s Climate Change Alliance (SECCCA).
She is an alternate representative on the Inter Council Aboriginal Consultative Committee and the Mornington Peninsula and Western Port Biosphere Reserve Foundation – Council Liaison Group. The Victorian Government has also appointed Cr Race to its Gender Equality Advisory Committee.
Cr Race has a Bachelor of Arts (Politics and History) and is currently studying for her Masters (Politics and International Relations). Her career background includes working across the e-commerce, tourism and community development industries within the public and private sectors, both in the UK and Australia.
Her community roles include establishing the Southern Peninsula Repair Café and Rye Crop Swap, as well as volunteering on the Rye Kindergarten Committee twice (on the fundraising committee and as President) and Rye Primary School Council for 3 years (still a current member).
Cr Race is passionate about her family, community development, swimming in the bay, cricket, the Melbourne Football Club, politics and travelling.
