Councillor Debra Mar was elected to the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council in 2020 and represents the Seawinds Ward. She is an appointed representative on the DEECA Wildlife Management Plan for Mornington Peninsula, the Literacy Advisory Committee, the Audit and Risk Committee, the Koala Conservation Group and the Mornington Peninsula and Western Port Biosphere Reserve Foundation - Council Liaison Group. She is an alternate representative on the Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV), Interface Councils and the Victorian Local Governance Association (VLGA).
Cr Mar’s career background includes corporate management and a small business owner.
Her community roles include volunteer work for MP Koala Conservation Group, BERG, the Dolphin Research Institute and Peninsula Writers’ Club. She has worked for many years in media at RPP FM local community radio station in Mornington, representing the community on breakfast radio and her own current affairs program.
Cr Mar is passionate about preserving our Peninsula and her interest rests with protecting our native and marine wildlife, ecosystems and biodiversity. She is advocating for the adoption of the Rights of Nature principles at State and Federal Government level.Cr Mar is also an advocate for the health and wellbeing our community, particularly those who are most challenged and vulnerable.
