Councillor David Gill was elected to the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council in 2016 and represents the Red Hill Ward. He is the appointed representative on the DEWLP Wildlife Management Plan for Mornington Peninsula, the Arts and Culture Advisory Panel, the Bass Park Trust, Mornington Peninsula Shire Council Tourism Advisory Forum and the Triple A Housing Committee.
Cr Gill is a full-time, independent councillor and a former Mayor. Prior to local council amalgamations, Cr Gill served as a councillor on the Mornington Shire Council for 10 years.
His community role has seen him work closely with residents, community groups, business and organisations to improve safety on some of the Peninsula’s most dangerous roads, create koala bio-link corridors, make Council-funded defibrillators available 24/7, enact Council’s climate change policies and Arts and Culture plan, champion live music and a Heritage Study for Red Hill Ward. As Mayor, Cr Gill played an instrumental role in the anti-red tape small business charter, the introduction of a party house amenity local law, increased the protection for remnant indigenous vegetation and the provision of rate relief for farmers.
He is passionate about protecting the character and amenity of Red Hill Ward from insensitive development while promoting sound planning principles and worthwhile development. He is a champion of wildlife protection and a strong advocate for our native bees. Cr Gill is also committed to Council accountability and transparency.
