Urban Forest Strategy - Mornington Main Street Market

We're reaching out to hear from you, the community, for your input on our urban forest.

We have an average tree canopy cover of 37 per cent across our urban areas, which is among the highest in Victoria. This takes active management to protect and enhance. These trees play a critical part in supporting the liveability of our townships through cooling and shade, provide local amenity, contributes to our health and wellbeing, and a habitat for the native animals.

We’ve developed the draft ‘Our Urban Forest Strategy’ to guide our efforts to sustain a thriving and resilient urban forest into the future.

The Strategy aligns with the community's desire for increased tree coverage and canopy, fostering a healthier environment for current and future generations.

The success of Our Urban Forest Strategy relies on your input so that decisions made by Council reflect community ideas, priorities, and values for trees.

Join us at a series of pop up sessions throughout the Peninsula, where you can ask questions to learn more about the Strategy and complete the survey.
