Leave Only Footprints and Echoes: Listening Trail

11-28-2023-202543-2454

Music meditations with the rising of the sun: as the light peers gradually over the horizon, follow your guide's tinkling goat bells through the wakening coastal landscape to each of three listening stations. Amidst views of sea and sky a musician weaves a mesmerising tapestry of sound within the rich "silences" of the awakening day. Pause there to absorb the magic, then once again let the bells lead you on to the next musician and more dawn magic, with evocative contemplations on bamboo flute, mesmeric vocal melodies and intimate percussion soundscapes incorporating beach flotsam.

Amidst the sounds of waves, birds and trees you'll encounter three soloists:

  • Anne Norman – shakuhachi (bamboo flute)
  • Poul Grage – eclectic percussion
  • Ria Soemardjo – song with occasional gongs

This is a rare opportunity to hear three acclaimed musicians within a unique environment and to immerse yourself in improvised showcases of their talent, and a time for Deep Listening within nature. Definitely be an experience to savour and remember!

Presented by the Mornington Improvisers Collective.

If climbing stairs to reach our dawn solo meditations is not for you, then please join us for our trio concert at St Johns Church in Flinders at 3pm.
