Melbourne-based artist Jon Campbell references Australian colloquialisms and uses graphic design and typography to turn everyday language and slang into text-based paintings. Campbell was the winner of the 2012 Basil Sellers Art Prize with his work Dream team, a series of 22 paintings featuring the nicknames of well-known AFL players. To coincide with the touring exhibition, Play on: The art of sport, MPRG will present a collection of works by Campbell that reference aspects of our passionate sporting culture.
