Biodiversity Blitz 2022

The Shire is celebrating Biodiversity Month this September by joining the greater Melbourne Bioblitz 2022 and we’re inviting everyone to get involved.

Whether you’re new to nature or know your brown beaks from your blue-bills, we’d love you to join the BioBlitz to help document the Peninsula’s amazing biodiversity!

Joining the Bioblitz is a great way to learn about local plants and animals and get involved in local conservation and citizen science.

What is Bioblitz 2022?

Bioblitz 2022 is a nature-based citizen science event run throughout September (1 - 30 Sept), encouraging people across greater Melbourne to record and share observations of their nature finds by uploading their photos to the citizen science app iNaturalist.

How do I get involved?

Follow these steps to join in the fun:
  • Download the ‘iNaturalist’ App on iTunes or Google Play on your smart phone, or visit the iNaturalist Australia website on your computer.
  • Sign up to create your profile (or login if you’re already a user).
  • Join the Mornington Peninsula’s Bioblitz 2022 project on iNaturalist.
  • Head outdoors in September to snap photos of your nature finds and upload them to the app.
  • Your observations will automatically be added to the Peninsula's Bioblitz 2022 project.
For more information about iNaturalist, visit the Shire’s iNaturalist page.
