The Delys Sargeant Age-Friendly Awards recognise a local initiative, club, group, services, business or person that contributes to building a stronger local community for seniors who live, work or play on the Mornington Peninsula.

The awards aim to provide a public opportunity to recognise and value older people (50+) in the community; promote respect, reduce ageism, and encourage an age-friendly Mornington Peninsula. Community members, older people and their friends, families and carers to nominate persons or organisations who actively demonstrate attitudes and actions which encourages these values.

Award Categories: 
  1. Mayor’s Senior Achiever Award - for a person 50 years or over    
    • Elder of the year
  2. PACE Age-Friendly Community Award - open to a local initiative, club, group, service, business or person of any age
    • Age-Friendly community service or program
    • Innovative club for older people
    • Encouraging Indigenous or Multicultural opportunities for older people
    • Age-friendly local business 
  3. Promotion of Intergenerational Opportunities Award - open to a local initiative, club, group, service, business or person of any age
Award Judging:

The Delys Sargeant Age-Friendly Awards nominations will be judged by a selection panel comprising representatives from the Mornington Peninsula Shire’s Positive Ageing Steering Committee and the Peninsula Advisory Committee for Elders (PACE).  
Awards are to be given for outstanding contributions in the category areas listed above. The selection panel will review nominations and supporting documents and make recommendations. There may be multiple awards – or possibly no award – in some categories depending on the selection panel’s review of the nomination’s demonstration of the selected criteria. Decisions of the panel are final.

 Keeping in mind the selection criteria above:

  1. Please tell us:
    1. How the nominee makes a difference to community wellbeing through cultural or civic life which promotes age-friendliness
    2. How their positive attitude to ageing involves and inspires others.
  1. You may attach copies of no more than 3 pieces of supporting information about your nominee, eg media articles, photos, awards, etc
