This Girl Can

This Girl Can Week, led by VicHealth, advocates for all women—cis, trans, non-binary, and gender diverse—to get active in supportive and welcoming environments. This Girl Can aims to empower all women and girls to enjoy the benefits of being active and feeling comfortable moving their bodies, no matter their identity, age, fitness level, or ability.
This initiative is part of the Shire's commitment to promoting wellbeing and achieving gender equality, as highlighted in our Council and Wellbeing Plan and Gender Equality Strategy.

As we gear up for This Girl Can Week (10th–17th November 2024), Mornington Peninsula Shire invites you to participate in this empowering initiative aimed at encouraging women and girls to engage in physical activity.

Here’s how you can get involved:

1. Share Your Active Moments

We’re calling on all women and girls—regardless of age, size, background, or ability—to showcase your active lifestyles! Whether it’s a walk around the block, stretching in the sun, or kicking a soccer ball with the kids, let’s celebrate what you can do! Share your active moments for a chance to win:

• First Prize: $200 Rebel Sport voucher
• Second Prize: $100 Rebel Sport voucher
• Third Prize: $50 Rebel Sport voucher

This Girl Can celebrates every woman's right to be active, focusing on how it makes you feel: strong, confident, and proud! Whether it’s a quick snap of your daily run or a fun video showing how you stay active, we want to see it!

You can also upload your photos to Instagram with the hashtag #ThisGirlCanMornPen.

The competition runs until 29th November 2024, so don’t miss out on sharing your empowering moments!

2. Share Your Event

If your club is hosting any safe and inclusive activities—whether they are free or affordable workshops, educational sessions, or events designed specifically for women and girls—we want to hear about them! Please submit your event details through MyPeninsula. Be sure to include '#ThisGirlCan' in the event description to help us easily identify and promote these activities. All submitted events will be featured on the Mornington Peninsula Shire’s website, amplifying your efforts and engaging our community. Kindly submit your event details by 11th November to ensure inclusion. We would love to showcase the fantastic opportunities your clubs provide for our community.

Terms and Conditions

The competition is open Monday 28 October and closes 5pm Friday 29 November. Winners will be announced by Friday 13th December. The winners will be drawn by a Community Wellbeing team member.

The selected community winner must live, work, study or play in the Mornington Peninsula Shire. The social media competition is not open to employees of the Mornington Peninsula Shire and their close relatives, and anyone otherwise connected with the organisation or judging the competition.

The prize is as follows and is provided by Mornington Peninsula Shire. First Prize winner will receive $200 Rebel Sport Voucher, Second prize winner will receive $100 Rebel Sport Voucher and Third prize winner will receive $50 Rebel Sport Voucher.

The information being collected by the Mornington Peninsula Shire in accordance with its Privacy Policy, the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 and the Health Records Act 2001 is for, entering the This Girl Can Week social media competition. The Shire may use photographic entries submitted for promotion relating to This Girl Can Week in 2024 and subsequent years.
