With the need for all of us to stay home to save lives, now is the perfect time to discover the natural world on your doorstep. So why not get outside and take a backyard safari?

Connecting with nature is one of the best ways we can improve our health and wellbeing during this stressful time, and there is a wild world just waiting to be discovered in your own backyard, if you look closely enough.

Share your encounters with wildlife in your backyard or on a local walk, by sending us your photos and videos using #mornpenbiodiversity and #backyardbiodiversity. Or jump on our Facebook page - - to share your finds via our biodiversity in your backyard posts.

Why not use your spare time to create a space for nature to thrive? You could build a lizard lounge or bee hotel and add indigenous plants to your garden. Check with the Shire Nursery for help with plant selection via

Concerns about the coronavirus outbreak and the need to keep physically distant from each other can be stressful and impact our mental health and wellbeing. Many people feel distressed by the constant news and the overwhelming amount of information about the situation.

So, switch off your television, put down your device and get out into the garden or your local neighbourhood. Spending time outdoors and connecting with nature is more important than ever right now.
