In-home services for older residents

The Australian Department of Health's Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) provides basic support and maintenance services to help older people and their carer's. CHSP is open to residents aged 65 years of age and over, or 50 years and over for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.

The program provides entry level support for older people to help them maintain their independence and remain living safely in their own home and community.

Eligibility is based on a person's age and support needs. If you’re having trouble with everyday tasks and feel that a little support could improve your health and wellbeing, CHSP could be right for you. An aged care assessment will determine your eligibility for the CHSP, including specific services.

CHSP in-home support services on the Mornington Peninsula are delivered by mecwacare and Bolton Clarke under contracts with the Federal Government. Home maintenance and home modification services are delivered by mecwacare.

What in-home support services are available through CHSP?

  • Cleaning, laundry and other chores - to help you keep your home clean and liveable
  • Bathing, hygiene and grooming - to help you maintain your personal hygiene and grooming standards
  • Food preparation - to help ensure that you continue to eat well
  • Day or overnight respite - to support you and your carer by giving you both a break for a short period of time
  • Changes to your home - to keep your home in a safe condition, allowing you to move around safely and independently
