The Voice Referendum
Later this year Australians will have their say in a referendum about whether to change the Constitution to recognise the First Peoples of Australia by establishing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice.
The Voice would be an independent and permanent advisory body. It would give advice to the Australian Parliament and Government on matters that affect the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Voting in the referendum will be compulsory for all eligible Australian citizens aged 18 years and over.
This is an important choice, and Council will be actively encouraging all Peninsula residents to take the time to inform themselves about this issue.
It is up to each individual to seek out the arguments for and against the proposal and to vote according to their view. Information on the referendum can be found at voice.gov.au.
