Games on the Green

Bring a picnic and enjoy some time on the grass playing one of the Briars’ timeless and ingenious outdoor games including giant Connect Four, giant Naughts and Crosses, frisbee and soccer. Games are available for both kids and adults to use whilst enjoying time in the Briars grounds.

Weekends and school holidays 10am - 4pm, free entry.

The Briars Craft and Produce Market

The Briars Craft and Produce Market will be a fantastic day out for friends and family to enjoy quality home-made produce. Purchase the freshest produce from across the region and engage with our talented stallholders who love their arts and crafts.

Winter school holidays - adventure at the Briars!

Are you feeling adventurous this winter? Would you like to join the Great Briars Treasure Hunt or the Junior Ranger Scavenger Hunt? Join us at the Briars this winter as we head out adventuring in the Sanctuary or the Heritage precinct.

Worried about the weather? Don't worry! If it's looking nasty we have a warm fireplace and great indoor spaces to continue our adventures inside.

Briars Junior Ranger Scavenger Hunt!

Don’t let a little bit of rain or mud stop you this winter. Join the Briars Junior Ranger program for an orienteering adventure as we hunt to solve the clues and race back to the finish line. 

 We ask that adults return at 11.30am to participate in a 30 minute orienteering exercise with the children.

Program for 6-10 year-olds (and their adventurous parents/carers!)

The Great Briars Treasure Hunt

Calling all pirates! Are you ready for the Great Briars Treasure Hunt? Even in the chilly winter months, there are treasures to discover here at The Briars.

Dress warmly and all pirate attire is greatly encouraged!

Program for 3-5 year-olds. Adult supervision required.

Briars Family Scavenger Hunt

We’ve set the challenge for families this winter: grab a map and list of clues from the visitor’s centre and get ready for an adventure. The teams with the fastest times will earn a place on our leader board, with the winning family by the end of the holidays scoring a free Night Walk during the spring break.

Briars After-dark Wildlife Walks

Take a walk through the Wildlife Sanctuary and experience the bush after dark. Many of our sanctuary animals are at their most active during the winter months. Bring along a torch to help spot kangaroos, emus, sugar gliders and more!

Children must be accompanied by adults.

Briars Aboriginal Cultural Walk with Yidaki

Celebrate the start of NAIDOC week and discover how Victorian Aboriginals have cared for and used the flora and fauna of the Mornington Peninsula during a beautiful walk with Gunditjmara Kirrae Wurrung-Bundjalung man Lionel Lauch (Living Culture) as your guide. This walk will empower, educate, engage and connect you in the land and moment. Included in this walk is a meditation and healing session where you will be immersed in the rhythmic primal sounds of the Yidaki (Didgeridoo) as it moves through your muscles and organs, creating a space for powerful healing to take place.

In the event of bad weather this session will run in the Briars Barn. Bookings essential via Eventbrite.

Beautify your garden with a native or indigenous plant from the Shire (Briars) Nursery. Gardening advice available.

Opening hours

The Eco-Living Display Centre is open every Friday from 1pm to 4pm and the first Saturday of the month from 9am to 1pm.
