Construction has begun in May 2025 for stage one of the long-awaited Rye Township Plan rollout!

This is an exciting development for Rye residents, traders and visitors! After years of community collaboration, works have commenced to deliver the Rye Foreshore Park & Promenade upgrade.

Stage One has received a total investment of $6.5 million, funded through a $3.25 million Victorian State Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund, as well as a matching $3.25 million contribution from Council.

Since being adopted in 2015 and followed by years of local community consultation, the Rye Township Plan sets the strategic vision and direction for the improvement of the foreshore, streetscape and town centre of Rye. It was closely developed with the Rye community, Rye Community Group Alliance and former Rye Beach Business Association

With the Napier Street Plaza previously completed, and works now underway for the Rye West Campgrounds, the Foreshore Park & Promenade is the final piece to complete for Stage One of the Township Plan.

Foreshore Promenade

The Foreshore Promenade will provide a sense of arrival as the main ‘gateway’ to the foreshore. The Promenade links with the northern end of Napier Street and creates a strong central axis to the pier. It includes a refurbished central walkway and opens to the newly created Foreshore Park public space to the east of the promenade and upgraded carparking area to the west of the promenade.

Foreshore Park

The eastern car park next to the pier will be replaced with public open space. The park is currently fragmented by infrastructure, so a continuous area of public open space which is directly accessible to pedestrians from the township will be a great benefit to the community and all who visit Rye.

The carpark will be relocated to the western side of the promenade, creating a continuous loop and easy to navigate space.

Works will include the carpark relocation, two plaza areas either end of the Foreshore Promenade, networks of paths, seating, BBQ facilities and landscaping. Extension of the Pauline Powell boardwalk towards the east will assist with sand mitigation and restore an area of public space that had become unusable.
