We want your thoughts on our draft local laws

Published on 09 June 2022

Our local laws are up for review and we want feedback on the issues you want Mornington Peninsula Shire to enforce on the Peninsula.

Community Amenity Local Law

From building sites, to rubbish, to pets – the Community Amenity Local Law (previously called the General Purposes Local Law) covers a wide range of topics. It empowers us to respond to local issues and protect public and private space as well as our community’s health and safety.
We have a legislative obligation to review and prepare a new local law every 10 years. A new Community Amenity Local Law has been prepared.
We will review the Open Air Burning provisions of the Community Amenity Local Law separately later in 2022 to ensure we are able to provide adequate focus and address community feedback.

Consumption of Liquor Local Law

A new Consumption of Liquor Local Law has also been prepared. This local law regulates consumption of alcohol on Shire-managed land. We made some minor changes so it's easier to understand, with clearer maps and simplified wording.

Short Stay Rental Accommodation (Amendment) Local Law

The Short Stay Rental Accommodation Local Law regulates the use of short stay rental accommodation on the Peninsula. Although this local law is not yet due for renewal, the Short Stay Rental Accommodation (Amendment) Local Law makes minor amendments to streamline the registration process and make it easier to administer. An in-depth review is scheduled for 2023, where we will seek community input.

What's happened so far?

During October to November 2021, we asked our community to let us know their thoughts around ideas we should explore as part of the Local Law Review. We heard from 33 people and this feedback has been used to help develop our new Local Laws.

How can I provide feedback?

Community consultation is currently open and closes 5pm 12 July 2022.
