Tyabb Kindergarten upgrade officially launched
Published on 22 April 2021
State Member for Eastern Victoria, the Hon Jane Garrett, today joined Mayor Councillor Despi O’Connor and Watson Ward Councillor Paul Mercurio to officially launch the Tyabb Kindergarten upgrade.
The upgrade, which will cost close to $1.5 million, has been made possible by a $727,000 grant from the Victorian Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund.
While work started late last year, COVID delayed the official launch of the project until today.
The upgrade work will be done in two phases to avoid disruptions to the kinder. The project involves repurposing an unused part of the building to create a second playroom and the addition of extra amenities, including a kitchen, staff office and bathrooms.
Accessibility standards at the kinder will also be improved and a new playground created.
Quotes attributed to Mayor Cr Despi O’Connor
“This project is desperately needed to serve our growing population and will ensure Tyabb Kinder is ready for the introduction of funded three-year-old kinder next year.”
“As a teacher, I know how important kinder is. It gives our kids the best start in life and gets them ready for school, including crucial social and language skills.”
Quotes attributed to Cr Paul Mercurio
“I’m grateful to the State Government for contributing half the funding for this project.”
“When finished, this will be a fantastic new community facility for local families.”
