We’d like to thank the Mornington Peninsula community for Shouting Out with us! We hope you’re as excited as we are about the impact our campaign has had with election candidates. The Shout Out campaign has shown what we can achieve when we work together.

Thank you for highlighting our most important Peninsula priorities to local election candidates. We know having these 10 priorities supported and funded would make an enormous difference to the health and wellbeing of people across the Peninsula.

These are the priorities we shouted out for:

  • addressing homelessness and the housing crisis
  • a peri-regional Peninsula
  • a cross-Peninsula bus service and rail electrification beyond Frankston
  • funding to address coastal climate change and infrastructure
  • a new arts centre
  • safer roads
  • a 130km Peninsula trail
  • a redeveloped Rosebud hospital
  • a recycled water scheme
  • better mobile and broadband coverage.

You have taken part in this community advocacy campaign like never before and we are so impressed with your interest and enthusiasm.

In summary we’d like to leave you with a few highlights from our 12 week Shout Out campaign:

  • you visited the webpages more than 13,000 times
  • you emailed election candidates on almost 4,000 occasions
  • our election forums have been viewed more than 3,600 times
  • 1,930 people responded to our social media polls
  • our social media campaign reached 157,418 people.

The candidates for Hastings, Nepean and Mornington have most definitely heard your call and the majority have committed their support to all or most of our top 10 priorities. Our report cards show which of the priorities each support.

But this is not the end of the road for Council’s advocacy. We will continue to work together with your elected representatives, to push for these priorities to be funded and eventually delivered.

Quotes attributable to Mayor, Cr Steve Holland:

“Thank you to everyone in the community for getting behind the Shout Out campaign. Your response and enthusiasm has been inspiring. The campaign is a wonderful example of Council and community coming together to have a real impact. But our work is definitely not done and we will continue our efforts after the election and encourage the community to do the same.

“I also commend and thank our outgoing Mayor Councillor Anthony Marsh and Deputy Mayor Councillor Lisa Dixon for their courage, creativity, and tireless efforts in leading the charge alongside our tenacious advocacy team.

“We wish all local State Election candidates the best of luck and we look forward to meeting with our newly elected members shortly. We will continue to apply pressure and remind our representatives of their commitments and funding promises.”

Quotes attributable to Cr Anthony Marsh:

“Congratulations to everyone who helped make the Shout Out campaign one of the Council's most successful yet. Thank you to all our staff who worked tirelessly to deliver such a polished and concerted campaign. And, of course, thank you to our passionate community for Shouting Out and advocating for a better Peninsula.

“I am incredibly proud of this campaign, but the advocacy mustn’t stop here. We will continue to fight for a fairer share of state and federal funding. I wish all the candidates well in the upcoming election and look forward to working closely with our new MPs to deliver the best outcomes for our Mornington Peninsula.”
