Take part in This Girl Can Week!
Published on 06 September 2022
This Girl Can Week (12 – 18 September) celebrates and empowers everyday women to get active however, wherever and whenever they choose.
The Victorian campaign, run by VicHealth celebrates all women, without judgement, and challenges outdated gender stereotypes.
But this is more than just a physical activity campaign. It’s about empowering women to be comfortable in their bodies and in public spaces.
In 2021, This Girl Can – Victoria inspired almost 340,000 women to get active as a result of seeing the campaign.
In support of This Girl Can Week, Mornington Peninsula Shire is encouraging women and girls across the Peninsula – whatever their age, size, background, gender identity or ability – to get active and share a photo of yourself 'springing into spring' in whichever way you choose.
Whether that’s a walk around the block, a few laps of the pool or playing a favourite sport, it’s about celebrating what women can do!
By entering, you’ll go into the draw to win a three month Yawa membership!
HOW TO GET INVOLVED
The competition is currently open and closes 5pm 23 September. To submit a photo visit: mornpen.vic.gov.au/thisgirlcan
Quotes attributable to Mayor Councillor Anthony Marsh:
“With the weather warming up for spring, it’s the perfect opportunity to get together with family and friends to get outside and get active. Don’t forget to take a quick photo while you’re out so you can join the This Girl Can Week competition by the Shire – there are some great goodies up for grabs.”
Quotes attributable to Health and Wellbeing Committee Chair, Councillor Antonella Celi:
“Women should be able to be active whenever, wherever and however they choose, without being judged for how they look, what they are doing or for how they prioritise their time. During This Girl Can Week we encourage all women to feel empowered and safe to get out there and be active in our community.”
