If you are looking for an incentive to keep the kids reading this summer, look no further than the BIG Summer Read.

The initiative, supported by Public Libraries Victoria and Mornington Peninsula Libraries, kicks off on 1 December and runs until the end of January.

The challenge aims to keep children engaged in reading over the summer school holidays to combat the phenomenon known as ‘The Summer Slide’. This refers to the loss of literacy skills over the summer when many children stop reading.

By keeping up with their reading, your child will keep growing their skills all year round and go in the draw to win some great prizes.

HOW DO I SIGN UP?

It’s free and easy to join, all you need to do is record a minimum of 10 books that your child reads over the summer on the Beanstack mobile app.

All types of books count, whether it’s fiction, short stories, picture books or graphic novels. If they read it, they’ll get credit for it! If your child is into audiobooks, those count too.

Children can register for the program at the library, online at plv.beanstack.org or simply by picking up a registration form from one of our library branches. Online registrations are now open, with paper copies available from Thursday 1 December.
