SAFER SCOOTER WISER WHEELCHAIR COURSE

Tuesday 13 April 2021, 10am – 3pm

Through sharing ideas and experiences, the program educates, raises awareness and aims to improve safety for motorised mobility device users.

The five-hour session will be run by Access Health and Community in conjunction with Mornington Peninsula Shire. The course will cover:

  • safe and responsible driving practices
  • an increased insight into driver skills and abilities
  • road rules and legal requirements
  • choosing the right motorised scooter or wheelchair
  • knowledge of how to get about on public transport or using local support services
  • an overview of motorised mobility device safety features and accessories.

Mornington Peninsula residents have experienced the trauma of mobility scooter related crashes and fatalities. Some of the contributing factors in the number of crashes have been inexperience with new scooter users, road awareness, poor quality scooters and road infrastructure.
