Part of Main Street, Mornington, will remain closed until further notice.

Several businesses were forced to close after a fire on 27 October 2023. Vehicle access was also restricted between the corner of Esplanade and 17 Main Street.

Work to make the building and surrounding public areas safe has faced a series of challenges, including strong winds and rain and the historic nature of the damaged buildings.

Based on the latest engineering assessment, the exclusion area needs to remain in place, as damaged walls have the potential to collapse onto the street and neighbouring buildings.

Our priority is ensuring public safety and minimising the impact of this closure on nearby businesses.

Once the walls have been supported appropriately, we will be able to reduce the exclusion zones, allowing affected businesses to reopen.

Businesses that remain closed are:

  • Madeline Kate Brow and Skin Boutique
  • Artisans Ally
  • Millers Bakery
  • Store fifteen
  • Brass Razu
  • Marco Polo
  • Counting Wealth
  • Colt Dining

Schnitz has been given access to make preparations to reopen, as the safety risk for that property has now been dealt with. Check their website for further information.

Main Street will remain closed to vehicles from the corner of Esplanade to 17 Main Street. Pedestrians may still access businesses in the closed portion of Main Street.

We hope to have a further update on 4 December 2023.
