As a result of a fire in a Main Street restaurant on 27 October 2023, several Mornington businesses have temporarily closed.

In each case, the business premises were either affected directly by the fire or were found to be unsafe due to the compromised structural integrity of the fire-affected buildings. The businesses that have temporarily closed are:

  • Madeline Kate Brow and Skin Boutique
  • Artisans Ally
  • Schnitz
  • Millers Bakery
  • Store fifteen
  • Brass Razu
  • Macro Polo
  • Counting Wealth
  • Colt Dining

The impacted businesses are finding alternative trading methods – customers are urged to check their websites for further details.

The Shire’s primary responsibility is to ensure public safety. The site will be cleaned up as quickly as possible to allow impacted businesses to resume trading.

Clean up and stabilisation works have begun and the area will be reassessed on 27 November 2023.

In the meantime, Main Street will remain closed to vehicles from the corner of Esplanade to 17 Main Street.

Pedestrians may still access businesses in the closed portion of Main Street. Traffic controllers will be onsite to ensure pedestrians remain safe during operations.

All members of the public are prohibited from entering the exclusion area in front of 7-17 Main Street. The map below shows the location of the road closure and the exclusion area.

We will provide further updates as safe access to the buildings is created, enabling them to be assessed and stabilised if necessary.
