A collection of local historical artefacts from HMAS Cerberus and the Rye Historical Society is currently on display at Rosebud Library.

The collection features many local historical items from around the Peninsula including a porthole from the infamous Craigburn (Braque) shipwreck.

The Craigburn was reported as being one of the loftiest ships that ever entered Port Phillip and one of the finest ships afloat. The Craigburn was captained by Captain Alexander Kerr at the time it met a frightful gale and came aground on the Mornington Peninsula surf coast near London Bridge on 8 May 1891.

There is a replica model of the warship H.M.V.S Cerberus which was constructed in the UK in 1869-1870 before arriving in Melbourne in 1871. She was initially a ship in the Victorian Colonial Navy before becoming part of the newly formed Royal Australian Navy (RAN) in 1911. There are also some Royal Australian Navy-related items and artefacts, training manuals and books that you can flip through at your leisure.

Spend your time browsing through this amazing collection of historical items from across the Mornington Peninsula at Rosebud Library and uncover some hidden treasures.
