Let’s work together to create an age-friendly Mornington Peninsula

Published on 02 June 2020

Did you know the Peninsula has the highest population of older residents in Greater Melbourne? At the last census in 2016, the number of people aged 50 and above was 44.8% of the population compared with Greater Melbourne at 30.9%. This is expected to continue to increase.
The Shire is committed to creating a community that enables all residents to participate, belong and contribute.
Mornington Peninsula Shire Council has developed its new draft Positive Ageing Strategy 2020 – 2025 to support all of us to live and age well on the Peninsula – you are now invited to provide feedback on the draft Strategy.

The draft Strategy is based on the visions of what an age-friendly Mornington Peninsula can look like in five years.

We encourage local older people, people of all ages, service providers, clubs and groups, and local businesses to submit their thoughts on this essential draft Strategy.
Mornington Peninsula Shire Mayor Councillor Sam Hearn said “the draft Positive Ageing Strategy 2020 – 2025 aims to ensure people on the Mornington Peninsula are supported to age well and to promote optimal health and wellbeing”
Mornington Peninsula Shire Councillor Antonella Celi, Chair of the Shire’s Positive Ageing Steering Committee, said “the draft Strategy fosters a vision to create an age-friendly community where older people are respected, remain connected and can continue to experience life in the fullest capacity. We encourage you to have your say and provide feedback on the Draft Strategy so we can continue to deliver the best outcomes for our community”
The draft Strategy has been developed using information gathered from the community at consultations such as the Shire’s Positive Ageing Community Summit and 2019 Ageing Well Community Engagement initiative.
Over 500 people contributed and shared their thoughts about issues and opportunities that will enable us to work better together to create an age-friendly Mornington Peninsula.
Community consultation is currently open and closes 5pm Friday 26 June 2020.
