Introducing our own Stormwater in-lieu Contribution Scheme
Published on 30 May 2022
From 1 July 2022 Mornington Peninsula Shire’s new Stormwater in-lieu Contribution Scheme will be applicable to all new eligible planning applications on the Mornington Peninsula.
Planning applicants can opt to meet their stormwater quality requirements on-site or voluntarily pay to offset by contributing towards the Scheme up to 100 per cent of the compliance requirements. The Scheme offers flexible options which can be more cost-effective compared to on-site works. Financial contributions collected through the Scheme will be used to fund stormwater treatment projects on the Mornington Peninsula.
These projects will improve the water quality entering Port Phillip and Western Port.

Quote attributable to Deputy Mayor Councillor Lisa Dixon:
“Mornington Peninsula Shire Council adopted the Stormwater in-lieu Contribution Scheme at its Council meeting on 5 April 2022.
“This is a big step in the right direction: contributions to the Scheme will go towards managing stormwater to protect the environment right here on the Mornington Peninsula where the impact of development occurs.”
