The Shire is currently undertaking the development of structure plans for its Somerville and Balnarring activity centres, to guide the future of these townships and provide effectively for changing community needs.

The Somerville Township Structure Plan and the Balnarring Township Structure Plan will guide land use, development, urban design and transport decisions that support the successful growth and enhancement of the township’s urban areas over the next 15 years.

Mornington Peninsula Shire Mayor Councillor Bryan Payne said the Structure Plan aims to shape future growth to provide a more attractive, accessible, safe and sustainable centre.

“We are inviting local community members and key stakeholders to engage with us and help set the vision for the future of Somerville and Balnarring”.

Red Hill Ward Councillor David Gill said, “this is part of our endeavour to work towards enhancing the liveability in these townships to create better places to live, work, shop and recreate, while looking after their special and unique values”.

At the drop in sessions in November and December, community members will be able to discuss what is working well and how this can be enhanced, as well as identifying how the township can change or look in the future.

These thoughts and suggestions will be used to help develop the Draft Structure Plans.
