Don’t miss out on the opportunity to provide input to two concurrent projects that are being developed: the Coastal Villages and Neighbourhoods Strategy (Western Port townships) and the Mornington Peninsula Neighbourhood Character Strategy (entire municipality).

Community consultation is currently open and closes 16 December 2018.

Together the projects will guide future development (public and private) in the coastal townships in the Western Port area of the municipality.

The Coastal Villages and Neighbourhoods Strategy seeks to address the following two issues for the coastal towns and settlements along Western Port Bay within the Peninsula:

  • Climate change impacts relating to coastal inundation and coastal erosion.
  • Protecting and enhancing their character in response to the pressure for change.

The Mornington Peninsula Neighbourhood Character Study seeks to determine areas where neighbourhood character values exist within the municipality and whether they require protection or enhancement.

This Strategy, together with the frameworks, will deliver on the Shire’s commitment to planning for climate change mitigation and adaptation as set out the Council Plan 2017-21.

These strategic planning tools will also assist Council to improve the policies and controls of the Mornington Peninsula Planning Scheme to better respond to the challenges of character and coastal climate change in line with community expectations
