Don’t miss out on providing your input to the Mornington Peninsula Neighbourhood Character Study and Guidelines. The project will guide future development across all residential areas of the municipality.

Community consultation is currently open until Sunday 17 February 2019 and has already started in many parts in the Shire.

The Mornington Peninsula Neighbourhood Character Study and Guidelines seeks to determine neighbourhood character values within the Shire and whether they require protection or enhancement.

The aim of this Study is to establish a set of principles to guide the design of new housing in all residential parts of the Shire to help ensure new buildings respect our established townships, settlements and natural environment.

Mornington Peninsula Shire Mayor Councillor David Gill said “we are working with the community to identify what you love about our streets and towns, to keep what makes them special. We can achieve this by recognising that future development needs to respect the established character of our settlements.

“This Study, which is underpinned by Council’s adopted Housing and Settlement Strategy, will deliver on our dedication to defending the unique characteristics of the Peninsula – as long as the state Planning Minister decides to finally allow the Strategy to be include in the Mornington Peninsula Shire Planning Scheme.

“Coming along to a ‘Listening Post’ discussion will help residents provide information about your values and views on local character.

“At this first stage of the project, we would like to know what residents value about their town, particularly the character of residential areas. I encourage the community to get involved in this conversation and provide us your thoughts”.

This is the first round of public community consultation. The community will have additional opportunities to provide thoughts and suggestions on the Study and draft Guidelines in the coming months.
