Have your say: Council’s new Positive Ageing Strategy

11 June 2019

Mornington Peninsula Shire is calling for community feedback on development of a new Positive Ageing Strategy to ensure people on the Peninsula are supported to age well and to promote optimal health and wellbeing.

The Peninsula has the second highest older population in Victoria with over 30 per cent of all residents over the age of 60, compared to the Melbourne metropolitan average of 17 per cent.

This number is expected to increase to more than 33 per cent by 2030. These figures highlight why Council is bringing positive ageing to the forefront of decision-making and ensuring the health, participation and security of older people in our community is enhanced.

Shire Mayor Councillor David Gill invites the community to share your thoughts on ageing on the Peninsula, what’s working in your local area and what needs improvement.

“This is your chance to contribute and share any new issues and opportunities that will enable us to work better together.

“We encourage local older people, service provider representatives, clubs and groups, and local businesses to get involved and have your say, about ageing positively in our community”, concluded Cr Gill.

Councillor Antonella Celi, Chair of the Shire’s Positive Ageing Steering Committee, said “we’re building upon the vision for an age-friendly Mornington Peninsula. All information and ideas gathered from the feedback will help us shape a Positive Ageing Strategy that will deliver outcomes to our local community”.

The Shire is holding community forums across the Peninsula and will also gather feedback online and via post.
