Welcome to spring on the peninsula! Warmer weather, some sunshine – and the time to spring clean.
Get rid of the green waste around your home at no cost between Friday 27 and Sunday 29 October. The green waste weekend is open to Shire residents and ratepayers – no commercial waste accepted. Proof of residency is required. Dispose of all your garden waste and untreated timber and prepare for spring and clear your yard ahead of the fire season.
The Shire has also eased burn off restrictions on small properties throughout October. This will help residents to burn off for fire prevention purposed ahead of the summer/fire season. During October, on land less than 1500 square metres, open air burning is permitted only on Fridays and Saturdays between 9am and 4pm. Make sure you still adhere to the General Fire Safety provisions.
The end of October marks the Garage Sale Trail. Host your own garage sale and join the trail on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 October. Clear out your preloved items, find treasure, meet the neighbours and have some fun. Register your sale for free and receive tips and tricks to make your garage sale a hit!
Later this month we will hold our first community waste forum. Come along between 11 and 3 on Sunday 29 October at Dromana Town Hall and learn how to reduce waste. Listen to presentations about new waste technologies, enjoy giveaways, and learn some handy hints to start your own ‘war on waste’ at home.
Applications for our Placemaking Grants, Community Support Grants and Creative Communities Grants for not-for-profit community organisations close on October 26. The grants offer funding to projects that enhance the social and built environments of local townships that involve residents and community groups that work collaboratively to improve community outcomes.
We’ll host our Positive Ageing Summit on November 2 at Peninsula Community Theatre. Join us for a conversation around positive ageing – we want to hear from older residents, their families and service providers that cater to older residents about the kind of community you want to live and age in. Hope you can join us.
