Enhancing and protecting the Mount Martha coastline
Published on 16 January 2019
After consultation with the community, Mornington Peninsula Shire has developed a draft Mount Martha Coastal Management Plan to protect and enhance the unique natural and cultural heritage of the Mount Martha foreshore reserve for present and future generations to enjoy.
The Plan provides strategic direction for the vision and future management of the Mount Martha Foreshore Reserve.
Mornington Peninsula Shire Mayor Councillor David Gill said with more than 190 kilometres of coastline along the Mornington Peninsula, the Shire has a strong interest and long-standing commitment to being leaders in coastal planning and management.
“The Coastal Management Plan establishes an agreement between the Victorian Government, Mornington Peninsula Shire and the community as to how the foreshore reserve will be managed”.
Briars Ward Councillor Bev Colomb said “the Peninsula has around 10% of Victoria’s coastline, and planning for our coast and its future use is an important role for Council and our local community. We look forward to hearing the community’s thoughts on this draft Plan”.
Deputy Mayor and Briars Ward Councillor Rosie Clark said “our coastline is one of the Peninsula’s greatest assets and most-loved aspects by locals and visitors. This Plan will help us protect it for years to come”.
Briars Ward Councillor Sam Hearn said “this Strategy, will deliver on the Shire’s commitment to protect and enhance the Mornington Peninsula’s biodiversity and coastal experience, as set out in the Council Plan 2017-21”.
