During National Volunteering Week let’s be better together
Published on 11 May 2022
Volunteering is people power! Nothing moves us more than seeing people helping others in times of need.
Volunteering is a wonderful opportunity to contribute to your community, meet people and feel a sense of belonging.
We have over 400 Shire volunteers who collectively contribute thousands of hours to support Shire projects and services including:
- Meals on Wheels
- L2P Program
- Home Library Service
- a variety of projects at The Briars
- Dromana Visitor Centre
- MPRG
- Mt Martha House Historical Collection
- members on both the Peninsula Advisory Committee for the Elders and the Disability Advisory Committee.
We’re celebrating National Volunteering Week from 16 to 22 May. National Volunteer Week is an opportunity for us to say thank you to all the 34,000 volunteers on our Peninsula! The theme this year is ‘better together’, which is a fitting sentiment knowing how much better our Peninsula is because of our volunteers.

Words from CFA volunteer Kathryn Sloan:
“I’ve been volunteering since I was 17 and it has given me a lot of opportunities for leadership training and things, I can take back to my work career as well as helping the community it’s a very rewarding.
“There are so many volunteering roles it’s not just getting on a fire truck and going into a fire it’s the community involvement, it’s the fundraising it’s the day-to-day operations it’s all those things that are part of a fire brigade as well.”
Quote attributable to Mayor Councillor Anthony Marsh:
“Our dedicated volunteers make our community a much better place. Their selfless dedication enables the delivery of countless services across the Peninsula. We acknowledge their hard work and take this opportunity to celebrate their contribution to the community. Thank you!”
