Do you know someone whose efforts within our community should be recognised? Have you been to a local community event that you thoroughly enjoyed?

You can now acknowledge someone’s tireless contribution to our community by nominating them for the 2019 Australia Day Awards in the categories of Citizen of the Year and Young Citizen of the Year.

Nominations for Community Event of the Year are also open where you can recognise a great community event that you have attended or helped to organise.

If you know a friend, family member, co-worker or school companion that has gone above and beyond to make the peninsula a better place – nominate them for a 2019 Australia Day Award!

Mornington Peninsula Shire Mayor Councillor Bryan Payne said being nominated for the awards are a great honour and every year remarkable residents of the Mornington Peninsula are recognised.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to thank someone you know for their valuable and selfless contribution by nominating them for the Australia Day Local Awards”.

Karen Fankhauser from McCrae earned the 2018 Citizen of the Year Award for her involvement and advocacy for an all-inclusive peninsula.

As an AACC member, Karen has been involved in advocacy for Changing Places facilities at Arthurs Seat and Mornington, the Mount Martha beach access project, and the AACC’s submission and presentation to the federal government on the National Disability Strategy. She also makes regular submissions to Shire policies, strategies and developments (including the Rosebud Pool).
