The new Sorrento Visitor Information Centre has been officially made an Accredited Visitor Information Centre through the Australian Tourism Accreditation Program and will form part of the official network of Accredited Visitor Centres across the state.

The Centre will be identified by the Visitor Information Centre trademark – the blue and yellow italicised ‘i.

This is a nationally recognised trademark where Accredited Visitor Centres adhere to risk, quality control and best practice customer service principles.

Sorrento is the second accredited Visitor Information Centre in the municipality delivering excellent customer service, together with the Shire’s Visitor Information Centre in Dromana. Other non-accredited Visitor Information Centres within the Shire include Hastings and two in Mornington.

The Sorrento Visitor Information Centre was completed by the Shire in 2017 at the cost of $1.1 million, including stage one landscaping and the new George Street toilets.

Mornington Peninsula Shire Mayor Councillor David Gill said “tourism is a key economic driver in the Mornington Peninsula and Council is committed to ensuring the Peninsula is a premier location for visitors to enjoy – this accreditation is well-earned”.

Nepean Ward Councillor Bryan Payne said “this is a worthy accreditation – the information centre has been offering visitors a warm welcome to the Peninsula by dedicated volunteers since its completion in September 2017”.

Nepean Ward Councillor Hugh Fraser said “this accreditation is well-deserved for Council, the Sorrento Portsea Chamber of Commerce, Beachside Tourism and Nepean Ratepayers Association who worked collaboratively to develop the much-needed Visitor Information Centre for Sorrento – one of the Shire's premier tourist destinations”.

Sharon Richardson, President of Beachside Tourism said “achieving the status of ‘Victorian Accredited Visitor Information Centre’ is recognition of the consistent high quality advice provided by the professional team at the Sorrento Beachside Information Centre and will ensure that we can continue to provide this important service to the visitors and businesses of the Mornington Peninsula into the future.”

Sorrento Visitor Information Centre is open daily from 10am to 4pm, closing at 3pm over winter. The Centre is closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day, Good Friday and ANZAC Day.
