Delivering an environmentally sustainable Mornington Peninsula

Published on 02 May 2022

Mornington Peninsula Shire is committed to delivering our Climate Emergency response through creating an environmentally sustainable Mornington Peninsula.

We are doing this by introducing a new local Environmentally Sustainable Development (ESD) Policy into the Mornington Peninsula Planning Scheme through proposed Planning Scheme Amendment C232morn.

Don't forget to have your say! Consultation is closing soon on 20 May 2022 for  proposed Amendment C232morn.

The Policy aims to ensure new development on the Mornington Peninsula achieves best practice in environmental sustainability, from the design stage through to construction and operation.
The Policy will apply to new developments of a certain size needing a planning permit, such as:

  • Residential development of two or more houses on one lot.
  • Commercial and industrial developments with a floor area of 100 square metres or more.

Depending on their type and size, affected developments will need to demonstrate best practice in energy performance, integrated water management, indoor environment quality, transport, waste management and urban ecology.

Through Amendment C232morn, the Shire joins over 20 other councils across Victoria to implement a local ESD Policy to protect our environment, secure today’s living standards and future-proof our communities against rising energy, water and waste disposal costs.

The Environmentally Sustainable Development Local Planning Policy (Amendment C232morn) consultation closes 20 May 2022.
